Bio
Timothy Amalavage-Smith (b. 1997) received his Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from the University of Alabama (2019), where he studied with Amir Zaheri, and Master of Music in Composition at the University of Louisville (2021), studying with Marc Satterwhite. Currently, he is revisiting the University of Alabama in order to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition, under the tutelage of Amir Zaheri.
He was selected as a winner for the Tennessee Valley Music Festival Composer’s Forum in 2014, had pieces premiered at the Dance Alabama Film Festival in 2018 and 2019 where he was awarded the Best Score in the later festival, had music featured at the Alabama Screendance Festival in 2020, is the winner of the Huntsville Master Chorale’s 2020 Composition Competition, is the 2021 recipient of the Huang Family Composition Commission, is the winner of the Alabama Orchestra Association’s 2023 Composition Competition, and is a finalist of the 2023 American Prize in Choral Composition.
Amalavage-Smith has had pieces performed by the University of Alabama Singers, the University of Alabama Contemporary Ensemble, Twickenham Winds, Louisville University Symphony Orchestra, the Brass Band of Huntsville, and the University of Alabama Opera Theatre. His biggest inspirations have always been nature and other art forms.
